The first 10,000 of 20,000 Green Scapulars just arrived. If you have no idea what I am talking about, please read this article, that should clear things up (HERE). In nutshell, I was inspired to offer free Green Scapulars , touched to a relic of the True Cross, to anyone who asked. To date, I have had requests for close to 8,000 Green Scapulars. I happen to believe in the supernatural power of God, and we want to see a multitude of conversions, which is the primary promise of the devotion of the Green Scapular.
If you would like to receive up to 5 “free” Green Scapulars, touched to a relic of the True Cross, you can order them HERE.
Today, after receiving the 10,000 Green Scapulars, I got them to a beautiful family, who is excited to begin touching these to the relic of the True Cross (see photo for this article). In fact, the mother told me, as the scapulars were in route to her home,
I just told my younger crew that they get to help you touch the scapulars to the True Cross. I wish you could hear them. “Wow, Fr Rick really loves us!” And “We’re going to be holy kids now” lol. So cute! They are sooo excited!!
We are hoping all of the processing will be done this week, and the scapulars should be sent to all who requested by early next week.
So, What’s the Big Deal About the Green Scapular?
The Green Scapular, called by Our Lady, “The Badge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” was given to the world by the Blessed Virgin Mary through a series of apparitions to Sister Justine Bisqueyburo, a Daughter of Charity, in the early 1840’s in Paris, France. On the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, Sept. 8th, 1840, the Mother of God appeared holding in her right hand her Immaculate Heart, mounted by flames and holding in her other hand a scapular.
The Green Scapular was approved by Pope Pius IX in 1870. It is called a scapular due to its appearance, but is not descended from the scapulars that form part of the habit worn by religious orders. It can be more accurately described as a “cloth medal”.
Since it is not the emblem of a confraternity but simply a double image attached to a single piece of cloth, no investiture is necessary. The only requirement is that the Green Scapular be blessed by a priest and worn or carried by the person wishing to benefit by it.
The Green Scapular is frequently given out at hospitals by chaplains in the hope of obtaining physical healings.
If the person is unable or even unwilling to wear it or carry it, it may even be slipped, unknown to him, into his clothes, bed, room, or possessions etc.
The prayer, “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death”, should with confidence be said for or by the person.
When invoked under this title and through this holy image, the Virgin Mary is said to obtain great favours from her Son, especially in the areas of physical health, peace of mind and spiritual conversion. She would particularly obtain the conversion of those who had fallen away from the faith, and non-believers.
This means that the wonder of the Green Scapular is that the grace offered is not dependent upon the level of faith of the one receiving this grace. It is only dependent upon the level of faith of the one praying for that person. This makes the Green Scapular a powerful spiritual weapon for breaking through the walls of hardened hearts to receive the gift of conversion.
